What is Long Term Care Insurance is the first question many people ask when they begin to enter into the point in their lives when they think about the circumstances surrounding their care, or level of care, once they grow too old to care for themselves.
Long Term Care insurance is coverage in the inevitable event that you are in need of custodial care. Basically, once you are too up in age (old!) to bathe for yourself, eat, move about (ambulate), if you develop a problem with continence, or if you cannot transfer from a wheelchair to a bed or vice versa...you need a caretaker.
These caretakers are not free and the government is not going to come and take care of you. It is unlikely that, for a sustained period of time, that your family will be able to take care of you. Therefore, you must look out for yourself by purchasing a policy, especially while you are young (the younger you are, the cheaper your policy!).
LTC Insurance will pay for caregivers to come into your home and take care of your daily living activities and keep you company while they're at it. How long they come for, the quality of caregiver you get, etc all depend upon the insurance policy that you purchase.
A long term care insurance policy can cost as little as $50/month depending upon your age. Shouldn't you contact a local, South Carolina Insurance Agent for a quote? It cant hurt and its only a click away!

Online Long Term Care Insurance Quote
Have you noticed that it is difficult to get an Online Long Term Care Insurance Quote from a non human quote engine service? That's because Long Term Care Insurance is a very intricate product that requires, on average, SIX meetings with a qualified Agent to construct an adequate policy for each individual situation. The product is just too complicated and, even if you could get a quote online from a robot, it would most likely not suit your needs or be as affordable as it could be if you consulted with a real agent.
The closest any South Carolina Resident can get to an anonymous quote is to call on me, a Veteran of the insurance brokerage industry, Native to South Carolina. I can first work with you (by email, on the phone, or in person as I travel the entire State) to fine tune the policy, then get you the quote by email, and advise along the way. If you do decide to buy a policy, I would definately be there to help you through the process.
See you soon!

Does Medicare cover Long Term Care
Most people think that Medicare will cover Long Term Care stays in Nursing Homes or would pay for caregivers in the event that they were home bound. This is somewhat true, but mostly not true. In general, Medicare will cover you, but for a very limited period of time. What's more, I believe (as do many other people) that Medicare is not going to last long enough to help the bulk of South Carolinians.
What will Medicare cover - if the sun and the moon and the stars all align correctly, this particular government run plan would cover you IF you needed SKILLED care, up to 100 days, WITH a co-pay. Once that 100 day period of time is over, you would have NO coverage if you didn't have your own insurance policy. Skilled care is generally not what a doctor will prescribe after a certain amount of time anyway - what most people come to need is CUSTODIAL care, given by a minimally trained caregiver.
What about the new Health Care Overhaul (Obamacare) - this, as you may know and understand, is still on the chopping block. What will exactly transpire and what we as citizens actually wind up with remains to be seen. From what we can gather so far though, employees will soon have an OPtion to purchase long term care insurance coverage with no questions asked as to their health history (insurability). What kind of a policy do you think you'll get if the insurance carrier does not mind that you have debilitating arthritis? A weak one, run by the government...think Health Department...think Department of Transportation ticket lines.
You need your own LTC Policy - one that you control, you pay fair market, actuarily sound premiums for that will cover you sufficiently when the time comes. After all, we are all still living longer! But will this long life be without the need for caregivers who cost money?
Looking forward to helping you find the right policy - no charge - call me or email me any time for a free quote:

Long Term Care Insurance Policy Cost
What does a Long Term Care Insurance Policy Cost? The answer depends upon your age, the amount of coverage you want and the length of time you want to be covered, your morbidity factors to name a few.
How much coverage you choose depends upon how much you decide is enough payout to cover your bills should you need to be cared for, usually when you are elderly. In the State of South Carolina, a "bandaid" policy whereby you are self insuring to some extent, would be in the range of $50-$75/day. A more comprehensive policy (but more expensive policy) would be in the range of $140-$170/day benefit. The higher benefit would cover most situations in S.C. including at-home situations as well as nursing home or Long Term Care Facility stays.
How long you choose the coverage to pay out has alot to do with family history. As with any insurance, though, we do not all have crystal balls and do not exactly know when we might need coverage, how much to cover, and how comprehensive of a policy to buy. Educated guesses as to the length of payout can be made though. Do you have relatives who lived a long time after being incapacitated such as Alzheimer's Patients? This mental disability will certainly call for long term care, but tends to linger whereby the person lives for a relatively long period of time in terms of insurance coverage periods. In this case, if you have a family history of alzheimers, you might want to pay the extra premium to buy an "unlimited" or lifetime benefit. Alternately, if your family history leans towards 2-3 year periods of time in which you'd need to be cared for, then you could opt for a cheaper, 2-3 year benefit period.
Morbidity is used when underwriting long term care insurance coverage. The more morbidity factors you have, the higher your premium would be. If you are too much of a risk, you can even be declined for coverage. Some examples of morbidity factors are: Having to use a cane to walk, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, heart problems coupled with vascular problems, etc. Minor health issues such as cholesterol or high blood pressure are not factors, nor are your smoking habits - these factors will not affect your premium.

Genworth Long Term Care Insurance Quote
If you need a Genworth Long Term Care Insurance Quote, it's free, its easy to obtain, and I can help you from start to finish with no obligation and no pressure to purchase a policy. All day, every day, I do free quotes from several companies, but mainly Genworth and Hancock.
Genworth's LTC policy is very competitive in premium. What stands out in my mind about the Genworth policy, though, is how utterly comprehensive it is. My own parents have a Genworth LTC Insurance Policy and it is a solid company with extremely high rankings and ratings among 3rd party evaluators (not just my opinion, AM BEST is one of these rating companies).
Another feature that I like about their plan is that it includes a Priveledged Care Coordinator - an actual person who is assigned to your case who will help you transition to this new life of 3rd party care. These coordinators are located all over the State of South Carolina and are assigned to territories. What exactly do they do? Think of it as a Long Term Care Concierge...again, this is a benefit that is included in the policy benefits once you go on claim.
Getting a quote is super easy - just email me! I won't pressure you to buy, but I will definately help you if you ask for it.
Happy New Year!

Caretakers of South Carolina Elderly - who will continue the legacy?
Residents of South Carolina face a new and expensive kind of issue when growing old in these times. Not only are there less family members to take care of our elderly, but the expenses of paying to live in an assisted living facility or to have someone care for you at home are astounding.
Who will take care of you when you are too old to bathe...to eat, to move around on your own (activities of daily living)? Who can you depend on and can these people afford to take time off to take care of you or to even visit now and then? The painful truth of the matter is that many of us are strapped for time, trying to work hard and make a living and taking care of our core family...and the problem is getting worse.
That's where Long Term Care Insurance comes in. You can at least get a policy that would cover you somewhat; giving respite to the family or other unpaid caretakers who might be there for you. The amount of premium you put into an LTC Policy will reflect the strength and longevity of the policy - the more you can afford to pay in premium, the more coverage you will have.
So some food for thought - who will continue the old timey legacy of caring for our family members when they get too old to care for themselves? The new government plans will be a very weak policy, only covering a fraction of the costs involved. Consider getting a Long Term Care Insurance Quote.

Visiting my Aunt Frances today
My Aunt Frances is in an assisted living facility in Lexington, S.C.. She is about 95 years old and in need of a visit. Some long term care facilities are more comprehensive than others - offering activities for the elderly residents, extensive grounds, meal plans...her facility is what I consider to be middle of the road with less frills, but quality care nonetheless.
Aunt Frances bought a Genworth Long Term Care Policy in the early 80's when it was actually "AMEX Life". Genworth is a GE Company with a high ratings and reputable service and integrity. Her policy is now paying off as it pays for her stay in this facility.
